I had hoped that I would be able to get this newsletter out soon after the weekend in Bowral but during the weekend it became clear that I needed to go straight up to Queensland to make sure that the final stages of an IT project completed without too much trouble. I have been there ever since apart from a few days at Barnbougle Downs over the Cup Weekend where I had a couple of rounds with a new set of Ping G15 clubs. I can recommend the G15s. They felt great and on the 197 meter par three 5th hole at Barnbougle I was one inch from a hole in one playing a 20 degree rescue club. Three of us who played the hole had birdies - the first time I have ever played a hole where three of the four players had a birdie. I know that many of you have played Barnbougle Dunes and will know the course well so I thought I would include a couple of photos to remind you of the wonderful place that it is.
Prior to the Bowral weekend David Bray, Stan Gyles, Jeff Naylor and I stayed a few days on the Gold Coast where we played Robina Woods, Hope Island and Royal Pines. I think everyone felt the Robina Woods was a beautiful course and a 'must play' on the Gold Coast. Hope Island at $140 per round was a 'must miss' course. It was a very ordinary course and we played it under difficult circumstances. When we got to the end of the first nine holes and were lucky to make it into the club house when the biggest storm I have ever seen started and continued for a couple of hours. For a time it was not possible to see more than a few yards such was the intensity of the rain. It finally stopped and we managed to play the second nine with only a small amount of casual water lying on the fairways. Royal Pines was the third course that we played and from memory we played the Blue and Green nines and missed the Gold nine. There was plenty of water on the course and I found most of it. The golf was social but I think Stan Gyles had the better of us all.

So much for my ramblings, now for the highlight of the Harlequin golfing year - the Denis Crawford Cup.

This year we saw many Quins from last year and it was great to see some new faces. The weekend started with thirty six Quins with their wives, partners and friends dining at the Golf Club on Saturday night. There were people who had come from New Zealand, Hong Kong, Queensland, New South Wales and Victoria and many old friendships were renewed on the night. The food and wine was excellent and the night finished with David Bray giving us the Harlequin song while Jeff Naylor held Braysie to make sure he didn't fall off his chair.
On the Sunday morning the teams prepared for the Denis Crawford Cup and both NSW and VIC were able to field 8 players. The course was in great shape and the weather was perfect for playing golf. It started off a little overcast but improved during the morning and the possibility of rain didn't eventuate. The competition was individual stableford and the DCC was the aggregate of the best six scores from each team. The tables were turned on Victoria this year with New South Wales winning the Denis Crawford Cup by 3 points, 205 to 202. The teams were as follows:
| New South Wales | Victoria |
| Jeff Naylor | Martin Fuggle |
| Andrew Moon | Peter Bolton |
| Tommy Towers | Stan Gyles |
| Rex Harris | David Bray |
| Dickie May | Chris Yeoman |
| Warren Lewis | Alan Soutar |
| Dave Gray | Stan Shaw |
| Peter Seville | Murray Smart |
Winners of the individual prizes were:
| Event | Winner |
| Best Lady | Maria Lewis |
| Longest Drive (8th) | Hamish Crawford |
| Nearest the Pin (11th) | Len Antcliff |
| Nearest the Pin (14th) | Peter Bolton |

We plan to finish the year at the ever popular Flinders Golf Club. After the golf we plan to have a Christmas BBQ (catered for by the Flinders Golf Club) at the club house. The Flinders Golf Club makes an ideal setting for a few drinks and a BBQ so mark your diaries to make sure that we are able to finish the year on a high note.
