Match Report
Eltham opened the score with a converted try at the twelve minute mark and Quins then pegged back at the eighteen minute mark through a try to hooker Bere from a line out drive deep in the Eltham 22. Quins then went ahead from some excellent pick and drive work resulting in the try to half back Hewavisse from the final ruck two metres from the line.
- Half Time Quins 10 – Eltham 7
In the first ten minutes of the second half the Quins forwards started to wear the opposition down and the ascendancy resulted in gaining good field position through pick/drive aided by great tactical kicking from full back Valentini and two further tries were added by unleashing the backs out wide and the sweeping three quarter movements resulted in tries to five eighth and captain Robinson in the 15th minute and winger Gunaserkera in the 21st minute.
- Full Time Quins 22 – Eltham 12
The win was the result of a fine team/squad effort and it was fitting that Jeff Bere our Zimbabwean hooker was adjudged Best on Ground by the VRU and received a medal for his efforts.
Congratulations are due to all concerned and thanks to all parents, relatives, friends and all Harlequins for being there in support. Great to see Harlequin flags kindly made by Dylan Johnson’s grandmother Ann proudly held high during the game and at the after match presentation ceremony - it’s been a fair while between opportunities to do that.
