Playing in such a close competition as the Premier 3 is this year, a loss can see movement on the ladder out of the top 4. So a slow start by the Quins with House going up 5 nil early was not wanted. Slowly the Quins forwards warmed up and strong driving saw Quins make good yards up the middle. However, a lack of committed clean out meant the ball was slowed down and the backs given slow ball. Clean out needs to be worked on at training and put into practise on the field. Eventually, Quins moved the ball down into the House 22 and after finally getting some go forward, the ball went to Matt Sutherland at 10 and he tap danced his way through the line and went under the sticks untouched. The entire House defensive line went for dangerous looking prop Mark Bradley, thinking he was getting the ball ten out from the line. Conversion to Skip and up 7-5 at half time.

Quins started the second half with more resolve, but let PowerHouse back in the game with some silly stuffing around in our own 22 that saw a turnover and a quick try to House. PH 10 - Quins 7.  Quins had to fight to get back in the match and again slowly ground down the opposition forward pack, led by No 8 Boof again playing his usual powerhouse way, the ball was again starting to be played in the opposition half. A blind side move started by Skip, who fed Boof who then ran through most of the opposition on his way to a try near the corner. The kicked was missed into the wind, which ultimately was a bad miss and left the score line at Quins 12-10 up.  From that point Quins looked confident, with Pimms running freely in the midfield and another try looked on the cards. However, Pimms had one head knock too many, got a bit dazed and confused and ended up not scoring a try. Again.

House then played smart footy and took the ball into our 22, and a resulting penalty (which they got to kick twice) saw them 1 point up with 15 mins to play.

Quins had plenty of opportunity to get over the line in the last 15 minutes, lead by wing Melvin Gann with some smart play , but the team took wrong options, didn’t back themselves and basically bombed two tries to let this one slip from their grip. A bitterly disappointing finish.

Points:

  • 3 Ryan Campion
  • 2 Pimms
  • 1 Special K
