Bendigo tour - 27th March, 2010

A total of 32 Quins journeyed up the Calder Highway on Saturday 27th March to take on Bendigo as part of our pre-season program. The weekend proved to be an outstanding success with Bendigo proving to be great hosts and some good rugby having been played.

We played two 30 minute halves with some Quins boys helping Bendigo with playing numbers each half also. Our generosity looked likely to rebound on us as colt Andrew Blannin starred for Bendigo in the first half scoring one try and setting up another.  With a two try to nil lead early in the piece, the Bendigo boys were playing out of their skin.  We rallied to post a nice try scored by new recruit Matt Moore.  However, Bendigo scored again to establish a three try to one lead in the contest.  However, we soon established a rhythm with another try to Matt Moore and tries to Jay Graham and Sam Au’vaa to lead 4 tries to 3 at the half.

In the 2nd half our front row of Constable, McLay and Richomme really stepped up to give Quins a commanding advantage and the injection of Motu at No. 8 gave the team some good go forward. The final whistle saw us emerge with an 11 try to 4 advantage.  No injuries capped off a good afternoon’s work.

The rugby was followed by some great hospitality from the Bendigo boys starting with ex Quin Bill Coulter shouting the Quins boys a slab of beer before heading out for a night on the town in Bendigo.

With good rugby having been played and good fun having been experienced by all, both Bendio and ourselves are keen to make the game an annual event. Particular thanks to Brock Parker for organizing the tour and to Mike Haugh for driving the bus.
