Quins outclassed by Rams
1st Grade dropped to their 4th loss on the trot with the Moorabbin Rams winning easily 53-29. Quins struggled from the outset with the Rams getting away to an early lead into the wind in the first half which they capitalised further on in the second half. Injuries again plagued Quins losing hooker Jack North early and then fullback Josh Moore and winger Tomu Mataika being added to a injury list that is getting too long.
In good news, both 2nd and 3rd Grade got back on the winning list with tough 20-10 and 28-24 victories. Having the support of the Colts players was a big bonus for both teams with Andrew Blannin having a stand out game for 3rd Grade.
Kemu Valentini shines at National Schools Championships
Quins U18 player Kemu Valentini was part of the successful 4th placed Victorian U18 team that last week competed in Brisbane at the National Schools Championships. Kemu kicked the decisive penalty goal that gave the Vics a win over NSW 2, the first time Victoria has defeated a NSW/QLD team at this level. The team also defeted ACT but lost to QLD 1 and then to a Combined States team in the 3rd/4th play off game where Kemu played the entire game. Congratulations to Kemu on a great effort.
Charlie Grieve Foundation
The Charlie Grieve Foundation is being set up as the result of a generous bequest from the “Estate of the late Charlie Grieve”. It has been added to by various generous donors and Trustees have been appointed to canvas additional funds from the wider Rugby community to enhance the value of the foundation.
“The “Charlie Grieve Foundation” is a structure that looks to facilitate the transition of Junior Harlequin players to Senior ranks. The Foundation will work with the Harlequin Club in particular and any other interested groups such as the VRU or the Melbourne Rebels to make use of existing and future training options that provide the growth potential for individual players to compete at a senior level or even higher through to State, Super XV or Wallaby status.”
