1st retain the Brooker Shield
Quins 1st Grade were always in control to win 33-7 in muddy conditions at the quarry against Boroondara to retain the Brooker Shield for 2011. The field was in very poor condition after the midday downpour that made handling and running rugby very difficult. Quins opened up a 19-7 lead at the half with the only blemish coming from a charge down try to Boroondara. Afa Amosa and Junior Fosio scored tough forwards tries and Emil Vartarzarian scored a smart try from fullback off a backline set move. The 2nd half started with Mace Poloie scoring a very good try running 50m to then slide over for the try and the scoring was finished off by a length of the intercept to Derek Corcoran.
2nd Grade did enough to gain the win with a 32-7 scoreline and secure 2nd spot for the season. 3rd Grade did it tougher going down 19-24 in the worse of the conditions and have surrendered 3rd place on the table.
Colts win the Minor Premiership
The Harlequin Maroon team won the 2011 minor premiership with their top of the table clash victory over Endeavour Hills 41-24 on Saturday. A tight tussle throughout the game, Quins always had the lead and then ran away with the game in the final 10-15mins once the huge End Hills forward pack started to tire. The game is definitely a clash of 2 styles, End Hills boasts a gigantic pack where the Quins strength lies in a very speedy backline.
Congratulations to the players and the coaches for a great achievement and now the job is at hand to win the major Premiership.
