In each game it was important to make a strong start and keep control of the ball as each game consists of 8 minute halves. The team worked on this in a training run before the first game.
In the first game, Harlequins lead by Maclu Vosa, scored early against a strong Boroondara team and never allowed them to get into the game and maintained an advantage, eventually winning by a try.
In the second game, Harlequins came up against a spirited Cerberus, with the game being played in front of a vocal local crowd. Harlequins missed some early opportunities to score before Cerberus scored a break away try. Harlequins got themselves back into the game and into the lead but a late try by Cerberus in the dying seconds tied the game.
Boroondara due to scoring bonus points in both games finished top of the pool and Harlequins then played in the Bowl competition.
In the quarter final against Geelong, Harlequins displayed an impressive game of running rugby and were far too strong eventually winning by 6 tries.
In the semi final against Endeavour Hills, Harlequins scored early but Endeavour Hills had taken the lead back by half time. However Harlequins took control of the game in the second half and eventually won by 2 tries.
After a long day, the final against Melbourne was played at a hectic pace. Harlequins had what looked like a try disallowed early in the game and from the resulting scrum Melbourne bounce onto a loose pass and scored a length of the field try. Melbourne then scored 2 more quick tries and Harlequins could never get back into the game finally losing 37-17.
The trip was enjoyed by all players and they were great ambassadors for the Harlequins club.
