Peter 'Fats' Fatialofa - A profile by Paul Neazor

When Samoan rugby was trying to bridge the huge gap between Pacific Triangular rugby and a place in the top tier of the world game back in the late 1980s, it was quickly realised that a certain type of player was essential if the team was to take that last giant stride. He had to be good enough for test rugby, that much was obvious, but he also had to have more. He had to look the part as well and had to be able to draw people to him; he needed to have the enthusiasm to take on what sometimes looked like an impossible challenge; he had to have the strength of character to treat everyone alike; had to be able to say: “Climb on my back and I’ll carry you to your dreams.” Such a player is extremely rare anywhere in the world and every team searches for just such a man.

The site is based around helping overseas visitors experience a bit of Kiwi hospitality through staying with a Kiwi family, or renting a Kiwi home for the World Cup.

ARU National Talent Identification Program

The development and implementation of a national talent identification and recruitment program for rugby union has been identified as a key element within the design of the Australian Rugby Union’s (ARU) High Performance Player Pathway and the game’s ability to provide high level access to as many players as possible. The development of the program will allow Australian Rugby to differentiate and dominate on the back of prioritized factors of competition.
